Thank you for your thoughtful comment, Lon. As you suggest, humor writing often has some element of truth in it. The question, though, is always what is the element of truth? This humor piece was inspired by something I witnessed at a playground last year. My own father never knew his grandchildren, because he died long before they were born. I did base a character on him, though, in the book "The Hero of Ticonderoga."
